Product Questions
Do you also sell standard pieces of art?
- Yes we do. We sell reproduction oil painting masterpieces by famous artists through our sister site Best-Art-Online.
Is it really hand painted?
- Our professional artists hand paint in oils from photos. We do not sell prints or photographic enlargements.
Are the portraits framed or unframed?
- Currently all of our portraits are unframed.
- We let the customer choose the frame to match their room decoration and preferences. Most of the time, the painting can be framed at a local framing shop for a lower price than buying and shipping paintings that are framed.
Am I limited to one photo per portrait?
- Our professional artists can combine people and objects from multiple photos into a single portrait.
- Be sure to fill in the order comments during checkout so that our artists know in detail how you want the photos combined.
Can you change the background of the portrait and how much will it cost?
- Changing backgrounds is FREE. Please use the order comments during the checkout process to let our artists know what background changes you require.
Photo Requirements
I only have physical photographs. How can I send them to you?
- We can only accept digital photos. The first step is to scan your photographs so that you can upload them during the checkout process.
- If you do not own a scanner just bring you photographs to your local library or photo processing shop and they should be able to help you. The resolution of the scanned photo should be 300DPI or higher.
What resolution do you require for the uploaded photo(s)?
- At higher resolutions, your photo will have more details which will allow our professional artists to create a better quality portrait. Scanned photos should be 300 DPI or higher.
- If the resolution is too low then we will let you know using the email address you supplied to us.
- If you send us a poor quality image or a low resolution image then it will be difficult for our artists to reproduce it as a high quality portrait for you.
Are photos taken on a digital camera accepted?
- As long as your digital camera has a resolution of 3 megapixels or higher then the resulting images should be ok.
What happens if my photos are not detailed enough or damaged?
- Send us the photo anyway and we will advise you on what we can do. During the checkout process please select “Request for Price Quote” as a payment method and you will not be charged.
- Generally, if our professional artists can see the details in the photo then they can reproduce these details.
Ordering
Do you accept special requests or do you only paint what is in the photo?
- Our professional artists can accept most requests. Be sure to use the order comments during the checkout process to let us know your requirements. The more detailed your comments the better.
- Some requests you may consider are:
- Tattoo or scar removal
- Colour changes
- Merge two or more photographs into a single portrait - this way you can have people or objects in the same portrait that may not have been together in the same photograph
- Remove braces from teeth
- Change clothes or hair stlye
- Change the background of the photo
- etc.
Can I order a gift voucher?
- Yes you can. The Gift Voucher FAQ explains how we handle Gift Vouchers.
- Each Gift Voucher covers the full cost of 1 portrait. When buying a gift voucher you have 2 decisions to make:
- a) is the person that is going to use the Gift Voucher resident within the EU (European Community) or are they resident outside of the EU?
- The reason for this is that EU residents are charged VAT.
- b) how many subjects will be in your portrait?
- Our pricing is based on 2 main factors: the size of the portrait and the number of people, animals, or major objects within the portrait. If the portrait is of a single person then select the Gift Voucher with 1 subject. If the portrait is of a couple then select the Gift Voucher for 2 subject, and so on.
What communication will I receive after I place an order?
- Once we receive your order we will send you a confirmation via the email you provide us confirming your order.
- When the artist has completed the painting we will send you a digital image of the portrait so that you can let us know of any changes you wish to make.
- We will also let you know when the portrait has shipped.

Pricing & Payment
Can I get a discount?
- We can offer discounts for multiple purchases provided that you are an existing customer or are purchasing more than 3 portraits. Please email details to info@best-portraits-online.com for a quotation.
How much does a portrait cost?
- Our current prices are displayed on the site within each category/product. Pricing depends on two main factors:
- a) the size of the painting and
- b) the number of subjects in the painting.
- A subject is a single person or child, a single animal, or a major object such as a boat, house, car etc.
- Backgrounds and minor objects do not count. If you have any doubts then please use the “Request for Price Quote” payment method during the checkout process.
Which currencies do you accept?
- We currently accept US Dollars, British Pounds, and Euros. If you prefer to pay in a different currency then please contact us via email to info@best-portraits-online.com and we will add on the currency for you within a few hours.
Why do you have 2 different prices on your site (with VAT and excluding VAT)?
- EU (European Community) residents are charged VAT (Value Added Tax). Non-EU residents are not charged VAT.
- If you do not log in with your account then you will see both prices. Once you log in you will only see the prices appropriate for your region.
How can I pay for my order?
- Currently we accept Paypal. We will be adding more payment methods in the near future.
Quality Review
How do I know if I will like my portrait?
- After our professional artist finishes creating your portrait, we will email you a photo of the painting.
- At that stage you can request any adjustments that are necessary until you are satisfied with the finished product. We will not ship the portrait to you until you are 100% satisfied with the end result.
How long will adjustments to my portrait take?
- Each time you request changes to your portrait you should be aware it may add up to 4 days to the lead-time.
Delivery
How long does the whole process take from ordering to delivery?
- Usually, it will take 3 to 4 weeks to create your portrait and to ship it to you.
- If a portrait is very complicated or if you request multiple changes then it may take a little longer.
- If you are ordering a painting for a special occasion then please order early so that it will arrive in plenty of time.
How is the painting packed for delivery?
- Every artwork is packed manually in ultra strong materials. The artwork is then rolled in special tube, and carefully transported to its destination.
What do I need to do once I receive my painting?
- The main thing to do is to unpack the painting immediately to make sure that it arrived safely.
- After that, arrange for framing locally.
What if my purchase arrives in a damaged condition?
- The chance that your purchase will arrive damaged is very low, as we use special packing materials for safe and careful transportation to ensure secure delivery and prevent possible damages. In the event that your purchase does arrive damaged through our fault, we shall exchange your purchase or shall refund its cost. Please record the condition of the delivery with a photograph of the damage and a description. Email these details to info@best-portraits-online.com.
What delivery methods do you use?
- We use recognised shipping companies such as DHL, FedEx, TNT, and UPS depending on location.
How much does my delivery cost?
- We offer worldwide deliveries, the cost is FREE.

Can I cancel my order?
- You can cancel your order at any time before we begin painting your picture free of charge. Please email you cancellation request to info@best-portraits-online.com and we will refund all payments you have made.
- If you want to cancel your order after we have begun painting then we may have to charge for work already done and refund you the balance.
